This border within the walled garden has become a blue border during early summer. Iris Jane Phillips in large clumps along with a new Allium Ambassador are complimented by various salvia. Salvia candelabra is a seldom seen variety which does extremely well in this dry sheltered position.
The Steps Bed
This bed is named for the steps in its centre leading to the orchard. It is at its peak in June when the roses, philadelphus and Buddleja alternifolia give out their wonderful scents.
Walled Garden
Adjacent to the house is a small walled garden. There is a lawn with a sundial in the centre and two broad beds backed by walls. The entrance to this area gives a view across the main lawn to the Long Walk
Fuchsia and Agapanthus
Fuchsia magellanica tricolor and Agapanthus campanulatus are planted in a narrow bed beside the swimming pool. They flower in August when the pool is most used by grandchildren. The agapanthus are a mixture of pale blue and off white.
Although this area is called the Rose Garden, it's not just roses! Campanulas and lilies abound along with a mass of other herbaceous plants between the roses.
