Towards the Column

Beyond the more formal part of the garden is a field where we have planted a growing collection of trees.  There are mown paths leading to views of the adjacent fields.  In the midst of the trees is a column which was erected in 1987.  It was brought down by the hurricane that year and again the following year in a gale.  It now has a steel rod through its core!

Eucalyptus and Silver Birch

One area of the field has a mixture of silver birch and eucalyptus which are particularly satisfying in winter when their bark shows up well against the sky.

Wollemi Pine

The Wollemi Pine is one of the latest trees to be planted.  It has been well fenced around to prevent deer eating it.
