By 2006 the hard tennis court that we had installed some 35 years earlier had become overgrown with moss and was unused and unloved.  Once the net surround had been removed I suddenly found a new large space to develop.

The court had been resurfaced three times so it was impossible to remove.  I decided to build on the court by placing second hand railway sleepers in a large rectangle slightly off centre and filling the space with a sand/gravel mix.

Around this rectangle was planted eight Ligustrum lucidum which will grow into giant lollipops. Down one side of the court are two long narrow raised beds filled with Miscanthus and on the other side are two square beds filled with more grasses and Papaver Beauty of Livermere.  Two smaller beds have been dug out and planted with box which will be clipped into flat topped pyramids.  Apart from when the poppies are flowering this is a green garden.

For the comfort of the players there are two large green benches!
